The following classes in Ceramics, Painting and Drawing are open to all 2022 Beaumaris Art Group members. Please note that you will need to be a member to enrol in all classes. Ceramics

HAND BUILDING - All levels

 

Beginners will start by learning the main hand building techniques of slab building, coiling and pinch pots. We will also discuss the design of work, including what kind of functional and sculptural forms suit the hand building process.

For those with more experience, you will develop your skills through more complicated forms and surfaces. We will also explore how to decorate surfaces of different clays using a range of finishes like glazes, oxides, slips, stencilling, under glazes and textures.

Adult class (18+)

NB: The fee includes glazing and firing. Clay is extra, you can select from our range.

HAND BUILDING & SCULPTURE (Teens only)    
                                                                        

Students will work on a variety of different projects while exploring different hand building techniques and surface decoration styles including pinch pots, slab building, sculptural techniques, coiling and wheel throwing. Price includes all materials, including glazing and firing.

Class for 12-16 year olds.

POTTERY WHEEL - Beginner

 

Learn the fundamentals of working on the pottery wheel (clay preparation, centring, throwing basic forms, trimming and glazing...). You can expect to make a few pieces to take home. Students will progress at their own pace with the support of the tutor.

Learn to make a cognitive shift from left to right brain, focussing on patterns and ‘lateral’ associations, and allow your ability to flow, float and scan through the abstract to avoid focussing on objects. Students will observe a range of subject matter such as still life, flora, human form and the imagination. Tuition, materials and equipment is included in the price. Adult class (18+)

LIFE DRAWING - All levels

Tutored life drawing studio with short and long poses for those keen to develop confidence and critical observation. Topics to be explored: understanding of anatomy using the skeleton, measurement and analysis of the human form, design dynamics (line, shape, weight, balance, structure and composition), tonal values, surface form, movement, and suggestion. We will investigate materials and techniques as well as the creative working methods of other artists. Adult class (18+)

Artist led painting studio. Students are welcome to work in whichever medium they wish (oils, acrylics…). All levels. Adult class (18+). "Each of us perceives the form of colour and space differently. During these painting sessions, I try to reach the student and understand their vision of the image being created.  I encourage my students to aim to create meaning. When this is achieved and the work makes sense, the student's work becomes their pride and joy and is hugely satisfying."

Introducing a new series of drawing classes for young people to discover that drawing is much more than copying. Students have fun developing their ability to translate what they perceive and imagine into artworks through a range of media and techniques. Interactive classes introduce useful drawing skills each week to build a repertoire of applied skills to form originality and imagination. These classes explore a variety of subjects from direct observation to cartooning and illustration. These classes are useful for folio development in a range of subjects. Tuition, materials and equipment is included in the price.
