About the event
JOIN THE GLOBAL SLOW MOVEMENT! This method is called Kantha, an ancient technique, using worn textiles, originating in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It's part of a global slow movement, upcycling garments to reuse them as quilts.
Select your favourite scraps of fabric to make a hand stitched patchwork quilt. Learn how to stitch a design for each square or create one large rhythmic design that is worked over the whole layered quilt. Fabric, needle and threads supplied, or you're welcome to bring your own. This session is focused on getting you started and learning the techniques, so you can then continue your piece at home. BEGINNERS WELCOME.
TUTOR: Sandra D'Mello - Sandra has a background as a primary school teacher, trained in International Baccalaureate and has taught at Mentone Girls Grammar. As an artist, she has an interest in bookbinding, print-making and painting in all media, recently including textiles in her art.…
