GOUACHE PAINTING with Jo Reitze

Participants will complete postcard sized paintings from observation of selected flowers or foliage or from photographed images of them on their phones, capturing the essence of their subject in the way they see it. The focus is not necessarily on botanical accuracy.

Gouache is opaque watercolour - a very user-friendly medium that enables correction. Dried colours on your palette become like children’s block paints and can be reconstructed with a wet brush. In this workshop we will use only 5 tubes and create a simple colour wheel. This will show you the colour possibilities before completing at least one postcard sized painting. Small paintings work well as pairs or in groups and many will have time to do this.

We will discuss the starting process such as consideration of composition and the selection of the viewpoint. Tutor, Jo Reitze will demonstrate her initial drawing process with diluted gouache. Individual help…
